Necessary additions that cannot be deleted in Arabic: An explorative study

Abstract

There are extra particles with meanings in Arabic that have been added to the structure of words and expressions for many purposes including showing addition. These extra particles are of two types. First, those which can be deleted without spoiling the meaning; second, those which cannot be deleted as they part and parcel of the structure and they make most of these structures. Arab Grammarians have called this second type as the necessary addition. The current study aimed at exploring these necessary additions that cannot deleted in the Arabic language.

The study findings showed that that certain additions are necessary and that Arabs can handle their language flexibly and that these additions are not haphazard nor arbitrary but they are purposeful and serve a number of objectives including fixing pronunciation as well as compensating for a deletion. The study also showed that additions may change structure of the new resulting term and give it a new formula. The researcher also found that Arab linguists were unanimous about extra addition; they had different attitudes that show how vast the Arabic language is.
