Jordanian secondary school students’ attitude towards homework in the math course during the Coronavirus crisis

Abstract

The present study investigated the Jordanian secondary school students’ attitude towards homework in the math course during the Coronavirus crisis. A descriptive analytical approach was adopted. The researcher reviewed the relevant literature to design a questionnaire by herself. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were checked.  The population involves all the Jordanian secondary school students. A purposive sample was chosen from the population. It consists from 350 female and male 11th grade students. Those students were chosen from three public secondary schools for boys and three public secondary schools for girls. Those schools are located in Amman. They were chosen through the purposive sampling method in Amman. The forms of the questionnaire were passed to the members of the sample in an electronic manner. 341 valid forms were retrieved. The response rate is 97.42%. SPSS software was used. Descriptive statistical methods were used to explore the attitudes of respondents and identify the respondents’ distribution in accordance with gender. Several results were reached. For instance, the Jordanian secondary school students’ attitude towards homework in the math course during the Coronavirus crisis are positive. Using homework in the math course contributes to promoting a sense of responsibility, raising achievement in this course, and improving time management skills. It contributes to developing students’ mathematical problem solving skills. It enables students to identify their weaknesses in the math course
