The reasons behind cheating in online school exams during the Coronavirus crisis in Jordan

Abstract

This article investigated the reasons behind cheating in online school exams during the Coronavirus crisis in Jordan. The researcher used a descriptive analytical approach. The population involves all the students in Jordanian schools. The researcher designed a questionnaire through using Google Form and the five point Likert scale. The questionnaire link was uploaded to social media platforms (i.e. WhatsApp groups and Facebook groups). The questionnaire forms were filled by 385 female and male students in Jordanian schools. Thus, the sampling method used in this study is the random sampling method. The SPSS program was used for data analysis. The researcher found that the reasons related to students include: the poor preparation of students for exams, and student’s fear from failure in exams. The latter reasons include: poor faith of student, student’s fear from parents’ punishment, psychological pressure enforced on students and student’s low academic achievement level. The teacher-related reasons include: failure to take the individual differences between students into consideration
