Clinical Application of the Bio-Psycho-Social Model in Addiction Disorders

Abstract

This article aims to approach developments in the field of classification and diagnosis of addictive disorders according to approved international classifications, as well as their interpretation and understanding considering clinical applications of the Bio-Psycho-Social Model, that allows a multi-dimensional understanding and gives a detailed description of the interactions between those dimensions. Therefore, we will highlight the extent of all biological, neurological, psychological, cognitive, social, behavioral, and developmental dimensions in the processes of diagnosis, evaluation, intervention, and relapse prevention.
